We need more of these. |
.....it does. The editorial in today's 'Globe and Mail' outlines one of the most scandalous financial disasters since the federal government purchased the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion for $4.5 billion. The costs for that boondoggle -- which they bought so it would never get built -- have exploded from $7.4 billion to.....wait for it.....$30.9 billion!
And you can bet they'll go higher as the government continues to not build it on purpose. Apparently, the builders neglected to factor in the difficult terrain and urban areas along the path it would have to go through -- like mountains and trees. How can "experts" be so dumb?!
The latest fiasco is the Toronto transit project. Original costs are now $3 billion over-budget and four years behind schedule. That's the fantastic job the guy in charge has done. Yep, CEO Phil Verster says he has, "A pretty good idea of what the approximate completion date, but I am seeing too many defects and issues arising, so I can't give you a range that I'm comfortable with."
And what did Doug Ford do the day after he testified before the Toronto Transit Committee? Why, he renewed his $860,000 contract! Oh, and by the way, his salary -- not including any bonuses -- has jumped 70 percent between 2018 and 2022. Quite a handsome reward for someone who is f-cking up spectacularly.
On another file, asylum claims are ballooning -- in spite of the fact that the Roxham Rd. corridor has been closed. Now, illegals are coming in through Montreal and Toronto airports, where immigration authorities have secretly implemented a new policy to expedite temporary visa processing by removing the need for proof applicants will leave at the end of their stay.
This has made it easy for people who would normally have difficulty obtaining tourist visas to enter and then claim asylum. So, they're streaming in to the extent that numbers are expected to skyrocket to six digits this year. Obviously, Canadians have no idea we're under siege, but we are on all fronts. Otherwise, people would be up-in-arms.
