So, Judith Barry, the head of the Breakfast Club of Canada, wants the government (that's you and me) to hurry up and shuffle more money its way to feed hungry kids who go to school without food.
WTF!? What I want to know is, how many parents of those under-nourished kid smoke or drink? I bet the majority. How can parents justify smoking and drinking while their kids are starving? Naturally, no one -- except me -- puts those two things together. That means that the Breakfast Club is basically paying for parents' cigarettes and beer. There's no other way to look at it. I mean, even if you smoke and drink, how much is a box of cereal that will feed a couple of kids for a week?
School boards are calling for a National School Food Policy. Huh!!?? Schools board should focus on curricula, not sandwiches, but they're calling it both an educational issue and a Canada-wide health issue. Apparently, there are a staggering 3,500 schools that have a breakfast program -- something the federal government pledged to support with a five-year, $1.2 billion program. Of course, it hasn't done anything yet. Alberta alone has a $20 million commitment for this year, but has rolled out nothing.
It's unconscionable.

Something else I'm having trouble digesting is Governor General Mary Simon lecturing King George III on how to carry out his duties to Canada. Really? Canada is a constitutional monarchy and you're the Sovereign's representative in this country, Mary, you should keep your thoughts to yourself and do the job you are being paid to carry out. I am sure the King has enough counsellors to tell him the lay of the land in Canada and he takes his marching orders from the government of the day. He doesn't need anyone else's two cents.
She's way over her skis on this one.
