The tragedy in London, ON, of the mowing down of a Muslim family got me thinking about "Islamophobia". What exactly does that mean? I guess it means many Canadians are wary of Muslims because they don't know much about that culture, but Muslims actually isolate themselves within very tightly-knit communities, which means they are purposely not integrating into mainstream, secular Canadian society.
There is a Muslim school right here in Rocky View and I wonder what they are teaching? Do they integrate the Alberta curriculum into their teachings? Who knows? Yes, yes, I know the Catholic Board teaches Catholic values, but it must adhere to the provincial curriculum. Do the Madrasis? Who knows?
That's a problem, in my view.
Another decision came down today regarding another segregated group: Natives. In addition to the $40 K given each family, a member of which went to a boarding school, those native children who went to a day school are now being given $10 K. $10 K!! These are children who went to school during the day and went home every night -- just like the rest of us. Should every Canadian be given $10 K for having gone to school? I guess so!
Naturally, the perennially-dissatisfied Cindy Blackstock says it's not enough. for her, nothing ever is. These native children went to school every day and went home at night. They even have a crisis hot line for third generation kids of kids! It's insane! What's the effing issue??!! Canada is a ridiculous country.
