....Greta Thunberg is right, the Glasgow Climate debacle was what she calls, "a lot of blah, blah, blah." I've been to lots of conferences over my career and I can visualize the scene as it wound down with everyone just wanting to catch a plane home. Agreements and closing statements always get watered down to the point of complete irrelevance because everyone has another agenda to which they must adhere.
That's what happened, as India held everyone back from rushing with relief to the airport by insisting the final statement be changed from "....phasing out coal..." to ".....phasing down coal...." Of course India did -- that entire country runs on coal!
None of the largest car manufacturers signed on, neither did China, India and the US. As I have said, whither the car, whither the entire economy, so that could not happen without destroying many countries and millions of people.
So, while the rest of us are panicking if we have to idle our cars for five minutes, China is busy building one coal plant every week! Apparently, everyone was clapping themselves on the back as the Glasgow bubble came to a close, but in spite of all their good intentions, the big trick now is to implement the objectives and goals reached there. And of course, there's Trudeau -- without any consultation with anyone back home -- declaring that Canada will immediately begin phasing out coal and put an unreachable cap on oil and gas, effectively further destroying Alberta and Saskatchewan.
Everyone left wearing the emperor's new clothes.

Just a word about the new Foreign Affairs Minister, Melanie Joly. If you were as gob smacked as I when Trudeau announced her ridiculous appointment, there is apparently a reason. My good, totally-plugged-in political friend in Ottawa told me that she demanded it and he had to comply because she has intimately compromised him. Now it all makes sense, but good luck, Melanie, trying to muscle the big boys in the US and around the world. You will not be taken seriously.
I was also very disappointed in a recent interview given the CBC by GG Mary May Simon. What did she talk exclusively about? The graves of residential school children, implying that they were "murdered" in some form or other. Hello, Mary, you're the governor general! Could you not get your head out of that one file for a few minutes? Please try and remember, now and then, that you represent Canada's Head of State. Start acting like it.
