Indians versus Indians

Watched a fabulous program on Netflix about a boarding school in India called 'Shanti Bhavan', begun by a man and his wife who wanted to give 'untouchables' a chance in life.  Scouts travel from village to village, administering IQ tests and looking for the brightest children to bring to the school to be given a top-rate English education.  They are brought at the age of four and stay until they graduate from high school; then they get entrance to university.

This is the equivalent to Indian Residential Schools here, but instead of being called torture chambers, Shanti Bhavan is revered for enabling children -- mainly girls, the most oppressed -- from the poorest caste to empower them to achieve success and become engineers, doctors, lawyers, or whatever else they aspire to.  Sadly, their brothers and sisters are left to inherit the hopeless roles their caste pre-determines.  The visits of these children back home twice a year brutally underscore this reality.

B's father and uncles were sent to boarding schools in India at the age of six; all became very successful, by the way.  The upper echelons of British society all send their children to boarding school.

This, my friends, is a success story.  My question is, why are residential schools here so reviled?  Where is the gratitude of these families for what their children have been given?  All I can say is, it must be -- and is -- about money.  As we watch native leaders calling for the ludicrous unearthing of every grave on the grounds of every school, I keep coming back to the same conclusion:  Money -- and lots of it!

My other question is, why are natives being deferred to about the raising and lowering of the Canadian flag?  This is completely wrong.  The raising and lowering of our flag comes with a detailed national protocol which must be respected.  It can't just be trampled upon willy-nilly by whomever.  Justin Trudeau should be censured for arbitrarily making decisions about our flag.  And now Roseanne Archibald wants the orange flag to be given the same status and position as the Canadian one?!  Please, someone stop this insanity.
