Now the UN wants Canada to take in......wait for it......30,000 refugees from Syria! Why does Canada have to take in people from war-torn failed states because their own leadership is killing them and won't look after anyone who manages to survive?
I'm sorry, but Canada is a successful country with hard-working, law-abiding citizens and we don't deserve thousands of people streaming in here to be looked after by...........us. These wars are caused purposefully by the leaders of these pathetic places. I don't think it's our responsibility to take in those fleeing. Can't remember which PM signed the UN declaration on refugees -- probably that sap Pearson -- but it was a big mistake.
Ridiculous.

Just got a nasty comment, which I decided not to publish. But all I can say is, sell a few more fur coats and jewellery and send it to the refugee office. Charity begins at home and we have enough unfortunates to look after here before we start taking in more refugees.
ReplyDeleteNow, if you could send them up north and other places where labour is badly needed, fine, but you can't and they'll all flock to Toronto, your town.
I remember when the late Ottawa mayor, Marion Dewar (Paul's mother) brought in several thousand Vietnam refugees and it took many years to integrate them. Our Parish also sponsored refugees, most of which never integrated, forcing the Parish to cover all their costs. Many actually moved back whence they came. It's an "iffy" proposition at best.
