That's what the commentators say about EVERY dog breed currently showing at the Westminster Dog Show, being held on a magnificent estate in New York. You have to laugh because some of the pooches are decidedly not "Royal-ish" looking. But I love the spectacle of crazies grooming and parading pampered dogs around the show rings! And the owners and handlers do seem to be a tad nuts. Remember that wonderful movie "Best in Show"? Trust me, it wasn't a spoof, it was a documentary.
Caught a few snaps off the screen. Don't all the handlers look alike? Either stout, middle-aged women, or, er, foppish men -- all trotting and jogging enthusiastically around the ring with their million dollar charges:
Look at the size of this hound!! And here are the panel experts -- dressed to the nines!
I love watching the judges examine each dog -- for what we have no clue? But they all appear engrossed in every detail, feeling the dog, checking ears, backbone and tail. We had a neighbour who was a dog show judge and travelled all over the world at shows large and small (See "Dog People", Feb. 24, 2011). The dog world is a very serious one indeed! Can't wait to see which variety wins Best in Show because it's always an off-beat, weird choice who travels the talk-show circuit for a few weeks basking in glory.
