Ridiculous

$7,300 for a carry-on travel bag.  Absolutely dumb.  I don't care if it is 'Hermes'.  Who needs an almost $8,000 tote bag?!  In fact, who needs anything "Hermes" period?

Flipping through the 'Grand Luxury Travel' magazine supplement in The Herald this morning, I saw a ton of stuff no one needs.  How about a $1,080 Louis Vuitton Monogrammed Jewel Case?  Or a $152 J. Crew shoe-care kit?  For $190 you can buy a cashmere travel pillow and eye mask.  Hey, how about just closing your lids?!

"Pack a touch of practical luxury in your carry-on with this brightly hued (sic) passport cover and card holder set from Valextra," reads the promotion for wallet-sized holders, only $240 each!

What is wrong with people?  Why buys this junk?

    1. The only charity I give to is the Salvation Army because you know the money is going to those who need it, not those who run it. Also, I give there because as an unwanted out-of-wedlock baby, my birth mother lived there until I was born and adopted out.

When they were amalgamating the Ottawa Hospitals a few years ago, they disclosed the salaries of the CEOs. Everyone was making around $300 - $500 K, except the Major who ran the Grace. He was making $35,000. You gotta love the Sally Ann!

  2. I received three Hermes' scarves as gifts
in the early 80's from two dear friends - one from Ottawa, the other my adopted Mother from Rome. I still have them and had no idea they were worth that much.
Don't overlook the St. Vincent de Paul - they come to our church the first Sunday of every month and all the clothes they receive are given to the homeless or people who have had burned homes etc. etc. etc. St Basil's also feeds the homeless every Thursday all fall and winter. It's not just THE SALLY ANN's who do good. However, my late husband always gave to
the Salvation Army along with a hundred other charities. He also replaced the stained glass window in St. Brigid's Church in Ottawa without telling anyone except the Parish Priest.
Now that is the true spirit of giving.

    1. Of course we give a ton to the parish as well, that's a given. But I never give a cent to Africa or Haiti, never ends up doing anything. To think of the billions given those two places over the years, it's a sin.

Wasn't that wonderful of darling Jack to do that for our beloved St. Brigid's! He was a saint.

  3. You are absolutely correct - about O.J. that is.
Well and most other things!! However, it burns my you know what to think Pamela Wallin received the Order of Canada and O.J. never did because Jean-Governor General in the 80's had worked with him in the Silly Service and did not like him!!!!! Thank God we have one fabulous Governor General now!!!!!
Good night and good luck. Your good.
